An ocean current is a continuous movement of sea water generated by a number of forces acting upon the water, including wind, the Coriolis effect, breaking waves, temperature and salinity differences. Ocean currents are primarily horizontal water movements. This layer shows the speed and direction of surface (at altitude 1 meter under sea level) ocean currents.
